Meanderings

Haven’t been playing much in the way of games the last few weeks. Spent this last weekend doing very little. Played some Pathfinder via Google Hangouts and Roll20.net functionality. Is pretty good and doesn’t really detract from the ‘all around one table’ feeling you get as everyone is on webcam in the bottom corner. Enjoying it.

I did spend a lot of the weekend playing computer games. Namely the latest X-Com expansion Enemy Within.
I’ve always loved X-Com and the latest installment is no exception. I’ve had one or two exceptional terrible missions – in that no one came home. This has lead to a high skill shortage within the military wing of my team. For those familiar with Red-Shirts by John Scalzi … it feels a lot like that, in that the rookies don’t come home. (Not in the whole ‘It’s a great idea badly executed’ way the book ended up)

I’ve also been reading a number of various X-Wing minis sites and games reports. After perusing some very interesting articles (amongst a lot of inane drivel) I’m getting a better grasp of the tactics in the game. Also, a lot of this I’ve started picturing cans of alphabet soup being chucked into a wardrobe.

Didn’t make it to the Pav last night. Combination of tiredness, lack of motivation, no pre-planned objective, etc. Am looking forward to going to the Well next week for a game of X-Wing though.
