So played my first game since making the scenery. Conall called over after work and we had a straight up 100 v 100 death battle.
Squads were as follows (Click on the image for a better look)
Dirty Rebels (Conall)
As you can see his approach was the most expensive pilot in its class with an upgrade.
I on the other hand went with a more ships is more guns approach.
Loyal Forces of the Empire (me)
As you can no doubt tell, I got lured into the ‘might as well see what a Lambda Class Shuttle can do’ trap. FUCK ALL, but more on that later.
Oh – Squad listing courtesy of here and no copyright infringement to them, FFG, George Lucas, Righthaven or any other entity is intended.
Didn’t start well for our loyalist friends when a homing missile in the face made short work of Turr Phennir. A few turns later the Tie Fighters as a whole managed to take the B-Wing out in a tight and messy battle in one corner. Around this time Tycho returned from his lap of honour around the other side of the board and in a quick shoot out with Mauler took him out. Lucky shot from the Shuttle finsihed of the A-Wing the same turn though.
With the Rebels down to Wedge and R2 things were looking good for the Empire. A turn later and Dark Curse is gone.
Needless to say Wedge is a Lambda Class Shuttle killing machine and made short work of Black Squadron Pilot within two or three turns of taking out the shuttle.
Conslusions, Observations and rules errors…
Firstly, LCS…. I love the model and want it to be cool, but it plays the fact that it is a shuttle and not a Space Superiority Fighter very well. Very useful in a scenario like Undeniable Assets, but then again that is the scenario that came with it.
Next Wedge. Wedge has always been my favourite Rebel pilot. Back when I used to play a lot of Star Wars RPG and read a lot of the old Star Wars novels Wedge was awesome. He still is. Coupled with R2 makes him that bit tougher where it is nigh on impossible to go head to head with him as you can’t get away and he just won’t die.
Squad selection… Going with a lot of cheap guys is more dice in attack but I ended up moving everyone of my guys before a single one of his. And then getting shot out of the sky before returning fire too. Error on my part I think… Then again I did make some terrible mistakes with movement also.
Rules error wise messed up badly with stress tokens. Missed the can’t do red manuevers when stressed bit. LCS just got worse. Either way must read the rulebook again.
And the FAQ.
Forgot to take photos the action till late on…
Oh! And found out there is a X-Wing tourney in UCC on Dec 8th and on at Warpcon on the Friday night. Happy days.
