Playing bored?

Other than working I’ve done little in the last fews days.

While pondering what to do with the asteroids bases I got busy making a playing board.
So on the way home Friday I stopped off in town and picked ups few things.
2 x 1 meters black fabric
2 x A1 Mouniing card
Can of spray mount/glue

The A1 sheets of card are slightly less than the 3′ recommend playing area for X-Wing measuring only 33 inches but close enough. When two are put long edge together they measure slightly under 4 foot. So the playing board in total is a little under 3×4 which leaves room for a slightly larger game.

Not much to the construction. Spray glued the first A1 card and stuck to the fabric leaving excess fabric on each edge and enough at the bottom to glue the second card. Then glued up the second and stuck that parallel along the long side and touching the first card.
Then I glued the excess fabric over the back to make it taut.

Not sure If I’ll leave it like that. Might glue a second set of A1 card to the back to hold the fabric in place better. Might not. I probably will attempt to put a star field or such on to the playing side. Possibly the good old toothbrush technique for flicking paint…who knows. Storage wise it folds down the middle too.

I also during this process decided what to do with the asteroid bases. I mixed up some black paint with some ova glue and spread it liberally on the bases. While the glue will not sick to the zinc-plated washers when it dries it gives an almost latex-like covering that is relatively damage resistant.
While I did quite like the solver bases on the asteroids I have to admit they look way better on the board with black bases.
